Announces
Promotion and Additions to the Firm
Thomas P. Cox: Architects, Inc. (TCA) is pleased
to announce the following promotions and additions
to the Irvine-based architecture firm. Steve
Hutson, Assoc. AIA has been promoted as an
Associate and Director of Quality Assurance.
Roger DuPont, AIA comes to TCA as a project
manager, and Jim Thornton, Assoc. AIA has
joined the firm as a job captain and designer.
Steve
Hutson’s responsibilities will include
organizing, reviewing and insuring the quality
of construction documents, CADD organization
and plan reviews. This position requires
the ability to interpret, analyze and resolve
complex issues while supervising the Q.A.
staff and presenting information clearly
and concisely. Hutson will improve the Consistency,
Accountability and Predictability in the
design and construction documentation at
TCA by implementing the new “C.A.P”
standards to the staff.
Hutson’s project
management experience at TCA includes Pinnacle
at Talega for BRE Properties, Inc., affordable
apartment homes for Jamboree Housing Corporation
and two developments for Avalon Bay Communities,
Inc.

to promote Steve to this vital position
at TCA,” said senior principal Thomas
Cox AIA, “The Quality Assurance department
is imperative to the success of this firm
and Steve is the ideal person to see that
our documents are the finest in the industry.”
Hutson worked for seven
years with Irvine-based EBTA Architects
and he also was employed for ten years at
Anthony and Langford Architects in Huntington
Beach. He attended California State Polytechnic
University of Pomona and Golden West College.
Roger
DuPont’s responsibilities include
directing and coordinating large-scale mixed-use
multifamily projects while bringing a technical
sophistication to the firm overall. The
project manager position requires extensive
experience in multifamily housing; proficiency
in client and consultant interaction, highly
detailed organizational skills and a thorough
understanding of AUTOCAD and other production
software.
DuPont received a Bachelors
of Architecture degree from the Southern
California Institute of Architecture (SCI-Arc)
and he also studied Urban Design and History
at California State University Dominguez
Hills. Receiving his architectural license
from the state of California in 1985, DuPont
has since become a member of the American
Institute of Architects (AIA).
DuPont's extensive
experience with both "wrap" and
"podium" type projects (including
the popular "City Lights" community
in Aliso Viejo, built by Shea Properties)
uniquely qualifies him to spearhead similar
efforts at TCA. Projects DuPont will work
on include vertically integrated mixed-use
urban infill projects with a high-density
multi-family component.
Jim
Thornton’s responsibilities will include
taking projects from schematic design to
construction documents while lending his
design skills to TCA’s senior housing
and multifamily projects. This position
requires supervising the production staff,
corresponding with consultants, organization
of CAD files and a detailed understanding
and proficient use of the AUTOCAD computer
program.
Thornton’s projects
at TCA will consist of high-density multifamily
projects, senior housing, and mixed-use
developments. His past experience includes
assisted living communities, hotels and
restaurants. Notably, he helped design the
prototype design for the trendy restaurant/music
venue the House of Blues.
Thornton’s educational
background includes a Bachelors of Architecture
degree from California Polytechnic Pomona’s
College of Environmental Design along with
various structural design graphic workshops.
