The American Institute of Architects 2004 National Convention and Design Exposition: Chicago!
Learn - Celebrate - Dream

What: The AIA 2004 National Convention and Design Exposition
Where: McCormick Place, Chicago
When: June 10-12, 2004
Information and Registration: www.aia.org

Cesar Pelli once wrote that Chicago is the American City—"its name conjures a mythical place where its architects were larger than life, and its buildings were new and noble."

Tour those “new and noble” buildings, meet “larger than life” architects, immerse yourself in the latest education innovations, and see the latest in building products on the market when Chicago hosts to the AIA 2004 Convention and Expo, June 10-12 at McCormick Place.

Registration for the AIA 2004 National Convention and Expo is open! Save $70 by registering before May 14, and you’ll have a better chance of getting the workshops, tours, special events, programs, and travel and hotel accommodations that you want. For up-to-date convention information and online registration, visit www.aia.org.

Don’t miss the opportunity to earn all the continuing education credits required for annual AIA membership. Come a day early and select from 29 interactive half- and full-day preconvention workshops offered on Wednesday, June 9.

The $225 ($295 after May 14) registration fee for regular AIA members includes 150 1.5-LU seminars held over the course of the convention. Continuing Education programs and tours will be marked with icons in convention publications to indicate special interest categories: health, safety, and welfare-related issues; topics recommended by the Young Architects Forum; and favorite programs from last year’s convention in San Diego.

Attendees can earn additional LUs by participating in professional tours of Chicago’s spectacularly varied architecture, from historic Chicago School skyscrapers, the Inland Steel Building, or the new Soldier Field. Spend a day exploring green roofs and wind turbines or touring the restored Chicago and Oriental Theaters. Or explore the Adler Planetarium, the Shedd Aquarium, and the Field Museum. Forty-nine exciting tours offer the chance to see this remarkable city.

Selected AIA/CES Registered Providers will offer educational programs at their booths, so attendees can earn more LUs on the show floor. But that’s not the only reason to visit the exhibit hall.

More than 750 leading-edge companies will display products and services for the design and construction industry at AIA Expo2004. The New Product and Technology Center, sponsored by McGraw-Hill Construction, returns as the resource for the newest, most innovative ideas and products. AIA Expo2004 also features easy to find Product Pavilions: High-tech, Fabric Architecture, Stone and Tile, Lighting, Restoration Products, and Green Products. New this year: the Interior Design Pavilion, the International Pavilion, and the Kitchen and Bath Pavilion.

A variety of special events round out the AIA 2004 Convention and Expo. The AIA Chicago Host Chapter Party at the Navy Pier’s Grand Ballroom, Dining by Design dinners, the annual Chancellor’s Cup Golf Tournament, various forums, receptions, and other activities offer plenty of networking opportunities.

AIA is also offering a new benefit for new AIA members. Members who join (or joined) between May 10, 2003 and June 12, 2004 are invited to attend the 2004 annual convention free of charge.* Tickets for continuing education workshops, special events, and professional and guest tours can be purchased.
