CMACN & AIACC Announce 2004 Concrete Masonry Design & Sustainable Design Award Winners
|
May 18, 2004, Sacramento, CA – The Concrete Masonry Association of California and Nevada and co-sponsor, AIA California Council announce the 2004 Design Award winning projects and architects.
A Jury of experts in architectural and sustainable design convened on Friday, May 14, 2004 to judge great achievement in both architectural design and innovation, along with the latest achievements in sustainable design and development. Lawrence R. Livergood, AIA, Tommy Cowan, FAIA, and John H. Baker, AIA were joined by the California State Architect – Stephan Castellanos, FAIA, AIACC First Vice President/President Elect, and Charles Eley, FAIA, PE, the Executive Director of the Collaborative for High Performance Schools (CHPS).
While all the projects submitted for consideration contained elements required for the Sustainable Design Award, such as the economic use of durable materials, thermal, environmental, and acoustic performance, along with locally made materials, only two projects were submitted in this category, both having achieved the formal Platinum LEED accreditation. The Jury noted many of these elements and characteristics throughout the judging.
Paul Bambauer, CMACN Executive Director and first time administrator of the newly expanded awards program notes the Jury process was exciting and enlightening as deliberations extended to designate twenty one awards for great architectural achievement. We thank the AIACC for their professional guidance and participation in the architectural awards process. The award winners will now be entered in the National Concrete Masonry Design Awards, and preparations for the Awards Program and Banquet slated for Friday, October 15, 2004, at the Regent Beverly Wilshire Hotel are underway.
