PROJECT ARCHITECT/SR. PROJECT ARCHITECT (k12-EDUCATION STUDIO)

JOB DESCRIPTION

Studio+ is looking for a Project Architect or Senior Project Architect with strong California K–12 experience and a deep understanding of the DSA process. This role is for someone who has spent real time working through DSA plan review, construction administration, and certification—and who takes pride in producing clear, coordinated, buildable documents.

K–12 work is a major focus of our studio. We work on projects of all sizes across California, from small campus improvements and modernizations to larger, more complex school projects. We value architects who understand that every project matters, regardless of scale.

WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING:

You’ll be responsible for leading the architectural side of K–12 projects from design through construction. Day to day, that includes:

  • Producing and coordinating DSA-ready construction documents.

  • Leading and managing the DSA plan review process, including responses and revisions.

  • Supporting construction administration, including DSA field observations and close-out

  • Guiding projects through DSA certification

  • Coordinating closely with consultants, inspectors, and school district representatives.

  • Maintaining and managing Revit models throughout the life of the project

  • Reviewing and redlining drawings to maintain quality and consistency.

  • Helping project managers with schedules, budgets, and deliverables.

  • Keeping project documentation organized and communication clear

  • Senior Project Architects will also take on a stronger leadership role—mentoring staff, guiding teams through complex DSA issues, and helping set studio standards for K–12 work.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Who We’re Looking for:

  • Is a licensed California architect.

  • Has solid, hands-on experience with California K–12 projects.

  • Has successfully navigated DSA plan review, construction oversight, and certification.

  • Cares deeply about drawing quality, coordination, and technical accuracy.

  • Can work independently but enjoys collaborating with a team.

  • Communicates clearly with clients, consultants, and contractors.

  • Is comfortable mentoring and supporting less experienced staff.

  • Brings a practical, solutions-oriented mindset to complex problems.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 3+ years of experience as a licensed architect (additional experience expected for Senior Project Architect).

  • Bachelor or Master of Architecture from an accredited program.

  • Extensive experience with DSA on K–12 projects of varying size.

  • Proficiency in Revit, Bluebeam, and Microsoft Office.

  • Experience with bidding, permitting, and construction administration.

  • Strong BIM coordination and consultant management skills.

  • NCARB certification preferred but not required.

  • Ability to sketch, detail, and communicate design intent clearly.

WAGE & BENEFITS:

Salary expectations, based on experience, would be between $110,000 and $150,000.
