Dr. Saum K. Nour, Ph.D. Presents

2025 California Energy Code changes and their impact on

Design and Construction starting January 1, 2026

Part 2 - Residential

(You can attend one or both parts – 2.5 AIA HSW / ZNCD credit each session = 5 credit hours)

About this Course:

The 2025 California Energy Code, which applies to building permits filed on or after January 1, 2026, includes significant changes to commercial and residential building design.  This course is offered in two parts. Part 1 will cover energy changes impacting commercial design and construction and Part 2 will cover energy changes impacting residential design and construction.

Energy specialist, Dr. Saum Nour will present a synopsis of the energy code changes that go into effect January 1, 2026, which focus on electrification and efficiency. Changes impacting residential design and construction to be reviewed include new modifications to heat pump water heater design, performance metrics for single family homes, expanded prescriptive requirements for windows and building insulation, and new ventilation standards.

Learning Objectives:

  • Attendees will learn how changes to the 2025 Energy Code impacts building square footage, volume, and structural design to meet the new California energy efficiencies.

  • Attendees will examine how the new energy code requirements impact design components and building layout in the early phases of design.

  • Attendees will review a new residential energy code checklist. This energy code checklist may be used in the early design phase and before hiring the engineering team to create an energy efficient and well-designed residential building that also considers "zero code" standards to mandate the high levels of efficiency and renewable energy use required to achieve net zero carbon emissions.

Learning Units: Pending Approval - 2.5 AIA HSW Units + These 2.5 hours will count toward your ZNCD California License Renewal Requirement. If you have met your 2025 requirement, these hours will count toward your 2027 license renewal.

Part 1: December 9th - There is a separate registration link for Part 1.

Part 2: December 11th

You can attend one or both sessions. If you attend both, your five 2027 ZNCD Hours will be complete for your 2027 CAB Renewal! If you still need ZNCD in December, just sign up!
