Course Description:



This course will review the sources of external sounds and the ways they may enter a building. With a focus on commercial applications, attendees will learn of construction methods and materials designed to lessen the impact of noise on the building’s occupants. A specific focus will be on the physical and emotional impact of harmful sound. We will look at required testing processes along with government standards designed to regulate sound levels. Attendees will better understand glazing performance relating to sound mitigation and options available to increase sound ratings in order to create efficient structures that benefit the occupant’s health and well-being.

  • Gain an understanding of sound, its sources and pathways of travel.


  • Realize the harmful physical and emotional effects of sound pollution.


  • Recognize the different processes to measure and test for sound levels.


  • Review construction mitigation practices and the role fenestration plays in controlling sound.
