Presentation by:

This 59,420 sq.f. three-story project offers a new kind of care for behavioral health services in Orange County, providing community and client social support services via education, rehabilitation, medication counseling, and case management. The facility will be owned by a public/private partnership between the county, area hospital systems, and a community-based health care program. The new building will support both an adult and adolescent crisis stabilization unit, sober detox unit, residential behavioral health, and social/wellness services.

Learning Objectives:

  • Attendees will learn how utilizing solar modelling software allowed the campus to be master planned to foster the integration of solar photovoltaic arrays. In total, the roofs of Buildings A-C are designed to be capable of supporting up 386 kW of photovoltaic panels, offsetting 68% of the estimated annual electricity usage. Building F (Phase II) is also designed to support a substantial PV array.

  • Attendees will learn how all four buildings are pursuing a LEED for New Construction (LEED-NC) v4/4.1 Group Certification. LEED Innovation points are being pursued for the projects design for indoor air quality and infection control, provision of places of respite, and onsite carbon sequestration through plantings.

  • Attendees will experience how the campus is designed to provide a variety of outdoor places of respite for clients and staff and will learn how the campus is served with 100% recycled water for irrigation.

  • Attendees will learn how the building envelopes were designed utilizing daylight modeling software to inform glass selection and shading device design, as well as to assess shading conditions within interior courtyards. Finish selection prioritized human and environmental health. 100% of paints, coatings, flooring, ceilings, and insulation have been required to meet strict chemical emissions testing. Composite wood products are specified to contain no added formaldehyde (NAF) or be ultra-low emitting (ULEF).
