ZNCD Webinar: How to Design Carbon Neutral Multifamily Buildings
Presented by:
Get ready for a deep dive into how you can design a carbon neutral multifamily building. Well review existing technologies and newer applications that have been tested in the field.
Learning Objectives:
- Understand the core concepts of thermodynamics and how passive design can improve a buildings thermal envelope, thus reducing energy demand.
- Explore building envelope strategies related to air sealing, insulation installation and other strategies that deliver positive thermal performance.
- Understand which solar, mechanical, lighting, and plumbing system & strategies may be best for your project and how they lend to efficiency.
- Review modeling options, case studies, and discuss how carbon neutrality does not end after construction.

Presenter:
Moe Fakih, LEED AP (QAD), General B Lic., CCxP, WELL AP, FitWel | Principal
VCA Green | Orange + Oakland
- Responsible for overseeing and managing a team of highly skilled project managers offering services that include California green building code, building commissioning, LEED, energy modeling and sustainability programs.
- Utilizes general contracting experience (licensed general contractor) and deep code knowledge to help project teams navigate unforeseen challenges and potential scope creep.
- Moe is also a Certified Passive House Tradesperson.
- Perform return on investment-based enhanced energy modeling, which significantly reduces first costs and reduces potential delays in design.
- Once the building is built, Moe and his team perform energy assessment and warranty evaluations, which leads to favorable cost reductions.
- Provides guidance and training for building design and construction stakeholders who are navigating green and energy codes through early entitlement phase through to operations and maintenance (Post C of O) phase.
- Accomplished speaker and presenter. Hosts educational events to inform architects & developers on recent changes to energy codes and trends in sustainability.
- Moe holds a masters degree in urban design with an emphasis in sustainability from San Diego State University.
