Cal OES SAP Training Presented by: AIA Orange County Become a registered Safety Assessment Evaluator! Cal-OES SAP Evaluator Training for post-disaster building Safety Assessment Program (SAP) provides architects, engineers, and building inspectors with the knowledge to provide valuations of facilities and buildings in the aftermath of a disaster. Disasters create terrible consequences, forcing people out of their homes into temporary shelters and closing down communities. With SAP trainers able to deploy into an affected area, they can quickly evaluate damaged structures, identifying those that are safe for occupancy, while marking those that are unsafe or have restricted use. Required Evaluator Field Manuals | ATC 45 | ATC 20 | Manuals are not required to be purchased prior to the course but necessary when deployed. SAP-Evaluator-Student-Manual-vs.-18.pdf Learning Objectives:  Attendees will learn to evaluate building safety in the aftermath of a disaster. Attendees will learn how to mentor others on health, safety, welfare evaluations in the aftermath of a disaster or emergency to keep people safe and prevent re-entry before inspection. Attendees will review protocol for working with and assisting local governments in the aftermath of an emergency. Attendees (licensed civil engineers, architects, or certified building inspectors) will be trained as credentialed persons to be SAP Evaluators to work in the field posting buildings, limiting re-entry, and reviewing code violations that would restrict returning to an unsafe structure. Not yet licensed?  While this training is intended for licensed architects, engineers, or certified building inspectors, we encourage students and emerging professionals to take the training. Completing the training provides early exposure to the importance of disaster assistance and helps build a sustainable pipeline of future and certified professionals that can serve as Building Evaluators. If you become licensed within 5 years of successfully completing the training, you are eligible to be certified and receive a Cal-OES registration ID Card. In the meantime, you will be able to participate in deployments under the supervision of a licensed and certified architect.  Course registrations are non-refundable. No transfers to future SAP training sessions will be permitted less than a week before the scheduled session.
