ADA Walking Tour:

Coastal Peak Park, Newport Coast

During this easy, approximately one-mile walking tour at Coastal Peak Park, attendees will learn about the ADA applications required to meet the implications of ramps, seating, parking, playground, athletic fields, and restrooms. Attendees will review current accessibility codes and requirements to meet accommodations in order to move freely and safely through the park.

Learning Objectives:


  • Attendees will learn about the application of ADA on park-like settings and how to implement designs to keep individuals with mobility issues safe.



  • Attendees will have the opportunity to view actual applications - good and bad and discuss design options to fit the area with persons with disabilities - mobility, visual, and hearing impaired.


  • Attendees will learn how to modify existing conditions to bring them to current code compliance.


  • Attendees will discuss alternative methods for ADA design during the initial design phase to make the project compliant and safe for people with disabilities.

Learning Units: 2 AIA LU/HSW + these 2 ADA Hours Count Toward California License Renewal

Tour: 4:00 PM - 6:00PM



Location: Coastal Peak Park in Newport Coast is located at the top of Ridge Park Drive across from the entrance to Crystal Cove State Park. We will meet at the tables near the restrooms. Wear good walking shoes and bring a bottle of water.


Cost: AIAOC Members $15 | Non-Members $30


Presenters Bio:

David Molinaro is an AIA member architect with experience in commercial, healthcare, and public facilities, with a focus on accessibility. Molinaro is also a Certified Access Specialist (CASp - 940) by the Department of Government Services for the State of California and provides inspection services throughout the State.


*Tickets are non-refundable but can be transferred to another individual to attend the tour.
